Any experienced manga reader will recognize the jewel FROM FAR AWAY is amongst idealistic fantasy-romance shoujo works. The art of the manga's panel work and illustrations is top of the line, grounded, and precise. Don't be fooled by its outdated drawing style!
One cool event after another happens as the story goes on. The cast of characters and their relationships each feel grounded, adding to our recognition of them as individuals and their role in the story. The romance and circumstances may be idealistic. Yet, it is a sweet idealism. Shoujo works live and breathe in the realm of idealism.

It's a loss that Kyoko Hikawa's other works have never gotten an English publication! Hikawa excels at sweet romance stories set in amazing action settings.

This series was awesome! I am very partial to the genre of teenage-girl-gets-swept-off-into-another-world to begin with, but this one stands in a category all its own.

The characters are well-done, and the female lead is actually lovable; while she is as useless in a fight as any other heroine of this genre, she has a practical mind and a lot of determination to do whatever she can--no matter how small--to help those she cares about.

The male lead is angst-a-licious; my teen girl dream come alive on the pages of this manga. The side characters all have stories of their own, interwoven just like in real life.

The art is exquisite, and the translation is quite good. All in all, this manga is a must-read!

I must be nuts! Why am I rescuing this girl?
[male protagonist, Izark, takes female protagonist, Noriko, and crashes through the window to escape from thieves]
I should want. . .the awakening to get killed.
"He jumped out of the window!. . ."
I entered the sea of trees for a reason. . .to destroy the awakening.
"Izark!"
But. . .
"Did you. . .land safely? So sick. . .didn't know if I could make it. . ."
But this kid doesn't know anything.
"Go."
She doesn't know anything, and. . .
"Go somewhere and. . .hide."
. . .she was dealt this fate against her will.
"I won't be able to. . .move for a while."

"Language. . .Oh. That's right!! I gotta learn their language. Then. . .next time he wants water or something, I could help.
"That's it! Instead of crying over my situation, I'll try to learn their language. That's what I should be doing now. Now I feel. . .much better."
