Game Changer is a book that toys with circumstances. It asks “What would you do if school subjects were suddenly sports and extracurriculars were academics?” In the story, the softball superstar protagonist gets thrust unanticipatedly into a school where being good at pitching does not net you social brownie points. Now, she has to find a way back home. The book also focuses on how people react to popularity and other people without such pleasure. It also has a solid message about treating others equally, regardless of social status, however, at some points, the protagonist’s motivations felt a little selfish. With that in mind, I give Game Changer a 3.5 out of 5 and a cautious recommendation.
