Stealing with Style by Emyl Jenkins If you enjoy mysteries and Antiques Road Show, you will probably enjoy Stealing with Style. (Algonquin Books © 2005) According to the blurb on the cover, the author is an antiques appraiser, a columnist and has written several nonfiction books on antiques. She combines all of those talents in her delightful first novel. Jenkins? protagonist Sterling Glass works as an appraiser in Virginia. Each chapter begins with a question and answer about antiques that relates to the plot. Within the first book, she discovers links among treasures found at the local Salvation Army shop, a home repair scam and more. She also offers a glimpse into the workings of New York antique auction houses. I think I liked the book because the author combines a sympathetic main character, an intriguing subject and a good puzzle without gratuitous blood or straying into cute. I look forward to the next installment. Carole O.
