Life in PhotographyStreaming Video - 2008
Known for his candid and humorous images of Paris street life, Robert Doisneau had a career that spanned most of the 20th century, and he became one of France's national treasures. This program presents extensive, detailed, and highly intimate interviews with the photographer in the twilight of his life. Doisneau describes his childhood experiences of wonder and pain, how his sense of beauty and eroticism developed, and how he undertook the life of a photographer. He articulates his creative process, emphasizing the importance of light over material structure and eschewing "geometric beauty" for the "the beauty of the soul." His supposed practice of staging subjects is also addressed.
