Complementary Forces in the Soul's Quest for EnlightenmentStreaming Video - 2008
Many people refrain from identifying themselves with any particular religion, yet they express a keen interest in nourishing their own sense of the sacred. What, then, does it mean to be spiritual but not religious? And how might individuals benefit by joining their spirituality to the religion of their choice? This program uses the psychosocial journey from dependence, to independence, to interdependence, to unity to propose answers to these questions. Participants include the Reverend Scotty McLennan, Dean for Religious Life at Stanford University; James Forbes Jr., of New York City's Riverside Church; B. Alan Wallace, of the Santa Barbara Institute for Consciousness Studies; Sister Joan Chittister; retired Episcopal Bishop John Shelby Spong; and Huston Smith, philosopher of world religions.
