This was OK, as much as I saw before the crack in the first DVD disk halted my viewing 2/3 of the way through the first episode. Too bad, but, having just watched The Tunnel, season one, this was not at all up to snuff, at least in the first episode. The main deficit I found was a lack of chemistry and relationship development among the cops. In The Tunnel this is a major plus. Perhaps Hinterland develops this later on. I *have* heard good things about the series from others.

Having discovered European productions, I am excited by this series.

Keeping my fingers crossed that EPL will attain Series 2 and Series 3

For those of us who fell in love with Aberystwyth, Cardigan, Wales, UK, Imdb lists 28 more productions from that breath-taking area.

The scenery steals the show in these movie-length episodes. But it's as if they spent all their money on the photographer, complicated plot and menacing music, and forgot to write interesting characters or dialogue. Surely the Welsh can't be that boring.

Poorly written, poorly edited but beautifully filmed. Great shots of the Welsh coast. Obnoxious characters, illogical plots. Way too long.

Fairly good crime series although I tired of the length. At least I didn't need subtitles. What a bleak area of Wales!

Once again the Brits prove they sure know how to create a captivating crime drama. This one set against the rugged and wild Welsh coast. Absolutely love Mathias' broody persona. Eagerly awaiting Series 2.

Superb British series of deep, dark stories with characters to match. The stories, the acting, the screenplay, the directing, the cinematography are outstanding. The music is somber and gloomy, perfectly suited to the atmosphere.

Complex stories, intelligent but sparse dialogue with lots of twists and turns. Slow-paced but never boring. One more series that proves that television is not a totally vast wasteland.

P.S. Hinterland Series 2 is filming...good news!

I have one word to offer...
Who wants to see a crime drama out in the middle of no where..
Sure, they save money in making it because there is no body out there and nothing to look at...
Give me a break..
When the guy goes back to the big city and begins to do some real work, then give me a call..
Till then, sleep on...
Ireland, Wales.. who cares..??

Hinterland will never generate much tourism for Wales.
Scenes of the bleak Wales countryside are featured in this series.
The Hinterland crime team is headed up by DCI Tom Mathias. Mathias is very much in the genre of the brooding Scandinavian detectives.
Now divorced, he lives alone in a caravan by the cold sea and is haunted by memories of his marriage and children.
He drives his Volvo on deserted country roads as he looks for clues and questions suspects and witnesses living in remote areas.
Maybe this Volvo is a homage to Scandinavian mysteries?
Anyway, interesting sometimes depressing characters and situations are encountered as Mathias and his team set about finding who the killer is.
