This book is great, but I do not have fond memories of this. I read this book in 4th grade in Language Arts, and as soon as it was assigned, I went home and blew though it, finishing it before the next day of school. My teacher then spent six long weeks going through this book, one hour every week. I found it torture, mostly because I am a fast reader and can go though things very quickly and comprehend a book like this very well, even in 4th grade, and my teacher spent much more time than was needed going over it, and she didn't believe me when I explained why I hadn't read chapter four last night, I had read the whole book 2 WEEKS AGO!! Despite my bad experience with this, Shiloh is a great book for kids if you're looking for something a little more . . . real. Like not fantasy, I mean.

A terrific story; a great lesson in right and wrong and how it's not always an easy choice. It's nice to see a main character with a conscious who strives to do the right thing even though it means doing the wrong thing too. That's his dilemma. I loved it.

For all dog-lovers!! This sweet story is about Shiloh, a little beagle who lives with a mean owner Judd Travers. Shiloh follows Marty, am 11-year old boy who lives nearby, and Marty decides to take the hungry dog in. But how is he going to feed Shiloh while keeping him hidden from his family? And what about Judd?

A book I loved reading as a kid. Normally, I'm not a fan of animal fiction, but this book not only has a cute beagle, but has some well rounded human characters too.

I am reading this with my children for a summer reading program through their entire school and actually looked forward to seeing what happened each time we read a chapter. Also, good for a wide span of ages!

I look at the dark closing in, sky getting more and more purple, and I'm thinking how nothing is as simple as you guess--not right or wrong, not Judd Travers, not even me or this dog I got here. But the good part is I saved Shiloh and opened my eyes some. Now that ain't bad for eleven. ~ Chapter 15

Funny thing is, you've got yourself a dog, you sometimes feel like you don't need anyone else.
Nobody else loves you as much as a dog. Except your ma, maybe. ~ Chapter 8
