In near-future Brooklyn, David is an overworked, tech-addicted advertising executive working on a high-profile campaign for a new generation of Augmented Reality glasses. Envious of his best friend Wim's charmed life and obsessed with his entrancing girlfriend Sophie, David uses the glasses to develop a lifelike avatar of her, but he isn't prepared for what happens when the line between reality and virtual reality begins to blur.

While visually gorgeous in black and white, the intriguing initial concept of augmented reality quickly fell flat with an entire cast of annoying characters that do nothing but treat each other horribly. As a previous reviewer said, the technology ended up only used for sex and bizarre live art, and while the movie had promise, it failed to deliver.

A beautiful made widescreen black and white movie. You must be okay watching young, creative professionals behaving badly. A wicked satire.

Stylish direction and a few enticing ideas kept us watching to the end but left us disappointed with the lack of substance or drama. ( Instead, see the superior technology film "Her" (2013) with Joaquin Phoenix! )

all the potential with this invention and all you can achieve with it, but at end it was good only as a sex toy??

The best thing about this film is its flawless style. The director clearly has an eye for creating lovely compositions, and the digital effects fit naturally into the frame. Another testament to the directory's high taste level is that the story manages to critique the characters' ultra-hip lifestyle while also reveling in it.

However, as far as intellectual substance, I didn't see anything in this movie that I have not seen in other science fiction films.

If you're interested in the intersection of technology and sexual politics, I would recommend "Ex Machina" instead.

If it's the aspect of addiction to technology that piques your interest, two great titles which go there are "Until the End of the World" and "Brainstorm".

If you're looking for a science fiction movie that is not rated R, I recommend "Jupiter Ascending" and "Star Trek IV the Voyage Home."
