This documentary gets a big nod for how the director decided to approach making this film. He gives the film a loose narrative, no interviews, and he has you second guessing whether it is a fictionalized indie film or truly a documentary. I appreciated the blended style, allowing the viewer a glimpse in to a different perspective but making the material entirely approachable. I grew up in a small town and some of the scenes hit a little too close to home but this films honesty, whether constructed or captured, is what will set this documentary from the rest.

A good companion film if you are on the holds list for the books White Trash or Hillbilly Elegy.
