Bhutto tells the epic story of one of the most fascinating characters of our time - Benazir Bhutto, the first woman in history to lead a Muslim nation. A favored daughter of the family often called the "Kennedys of Pakistan," Benazir was elected Prime Minister after her father was overthrown and executed by his own military. Her two terms in power saw extreme acts of courage and controversy as she tried to clean up Pakistan's corrupt political culture while quelling the fires of radical Islam that threaten to engulf the region. A fascinating array of archival footage and interviews with family members and leading experts brings life to this tale of Shakespearean dimension in the country the Economist calls "the World's most dangerous place."

Sept 22 2016.....well, I certainly learned a lot that I didn't know about from this movie.....fascinating!.....I remember her murder, but I cannot believe that it was 9 years ago already.......Currently reading a novel by Tarquin Hall, The case of the Deadly Butter Chicken, and it mentions the split between India and Pakistan, and the rapes and murders that were a result. Never knew! Funny how I happen to come across this movie while reading that book.....weird. I guess I am meant to be on an Eastern tangent right now. Wonder why? Never to old to learn.....will be following current events in Pakistan more closely from now on, the movie ends with a grain of hope, but that was 2011!

A beautiful woman, an extraordinary life. The US was never comfortable with the Bhuttos, democratic civilian social reformers. We considered military dictators more reliable allies. Henry Kissinger threatened to "make a horrible example" of Benazir Bhutto's father, who was subsequently overthrown by General Zia. We embraced Zia, a ruthless Islamist, because he was anti-Soviet. Benazir Bhutto assumed her father's mantle and his difficulties.

Details I did not know, events that I missed reading while growing up in India...Watch the movie, it will etch a memory forever. A figure I want to know more about now.
