The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is a satire on society’s prejudices towards age and appearance. Benjamin is born a seventy-year-old man, and as his age increases, he becomes younger. In other words, the effects of age apply to him in reverse. Benjamin’s relationships with his father, wife, and son show how unfit he is to blend in with the society and gain its acceptance. Regardless of Benjamin’s behaviour, inner character or skills, he is always judged by the way he looks, and deemed either too old or too young. More precisely, the society ridicules Benjamin for trying to participate in activities that people of his age do not usually do. Although the reversal of age is unrealistic, the story conveys messages that can definitely be applied to real life. Moreover, the tone of the narrator is tinged with sarcasm that complements the irony of the events. All in all, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is enjoyable to read because of its brevity and humour. 5/5

A very entertaining short story. Told in a subdued voice, not very dramatic. How Hollywood was able to drag this short story out to 2+ hours of movie is beyond me.

This is one of the best short stories I have ever read. The movie, however, is another story. And quite literally.
