Construction Workers Build A Highway Ca. 1960Unknown - 1960
In 1956, President Dwight Eisenhower signed the National Interstate and Defense Highways Act, which authorized the construction of more than 40,000 miles of highway. The purpose of the act was to create a network of roads that could be used to escape a Soviet invasion or nuclear attack.
