Detective Patrik Hedstrom is no stranger to tragedy. A murder case concerning Fjällbacka's dead financial director, Mats Sverin, is a grim but useful distraction from his recent family misfortunes. It seems Sverin was a man who everybody liked yet nobody really knew--a man with something to hide...His high school sweetheart, Nathalie, has just returned to Fjallbacka with her five-year-old son--perhaps can she shed some light on who Sverin really was? However, Nathalie has her own secret. If it's discovered, she will lose her only child. As the investigation stalls, the police have many questions. But there is only one that matters: Is there anything a mother would not do to protect her child?

This book needed some editing as it was way too long and the many characters were confusing. It didn't help that some characters were called
sometimes by their first name and next by their last name. The whole subplot about the resort opening was unnecessary.

I really enjoyed the book with all its characters with their own stories. The ending did not say what happened to one character who was about to be shot by her abusive husband so anxious to read the next to see what happened. Now if it would only be translated to English soon. I guess it took about 2 years for this one.

If you like a hint of supernatural, and feel strong about children, women, and families this would be worth your time. Not terribly exciting nor is it very likely to keep your curiosity in the mystery.

Personally disappointed after reading the last previous 6 books. You do need to read the previous book to know what is going on, as it had a cliffhanger ending.
Being a young male who loves murder mysteries this book just was not enough to keep my interest for a 500 pg book. Definitely not a thriller, and borderline mysterious.

I did not actually find this installment in the series all that mysterious, though it did serve to move along the overarching story and character development.

good story but did I miss something?
What happened to the girl in the forest? Madeleine ? I suppose she was shot . It was a bit disjointed .Unless we find out in the next book?

This is a thriller that is hard to put down. Not only do you have the mystery of the crime but if you have read any of the previous books you get to follow the relationships of the key figures in the police department as they move along over time. Throw in murder, organized crime, drugs, etc. and you get a good read. I'm looking forward to her next book.
